In 1976, three Pagan groups in the greater Chicago area gathered to discuss forming a council of Pagan groups. Although their traditions varied slightly, these groups had been celebrating Festivals together for several years. Now, they felt, it was time to see if a door could be opened to bring other groups in the Chicago area into this Circle of sharing.

They contacted several other groups and a meeting was held to exchange ideas. Slowly from that meeting the Midwest Pagan Council evolved.

The primary purpose of the Council was to share Traditions, information, and exchange ideas that might foster understanding and unity within the Pagan community. Guidelines for membership to the Council were kept simple. Each member group needed to:

  1. be Pagan and view Paganism as a Religion,
  2. have been active for at least 6 months prior to seeking membership and have at least three (3) active members, and
  3. attend Council meetings on a regular basis.

After over thirty years, the Midwest Pagan Council is still around and doing what is can for the Pagan Community.
